Making the remarks in his speech in Kazakhstan’s Gumilyov Eurasian National University after receiving its honorary professorship, he highlighted the responsibility of university students and professors in clarifying the facts at the present stage and urged them to frankly follow up all international developments. Terming both countries of Iran and Kazakhstan as cradles of old civilizations and rich cultures, he said, he was sure the academics and students in the two friendly and brotherly countries would as always try to follow the true realities of developments. Turning to the issue of Palestine, the president described it as a decades-old wound and, outlining the history of oppressions the nation has been enduring in the past 60 years, he referred to the recent Zionist attacks on Gaza and the massacre of its women, children and elderly people as the latest case of brutality inflicted on the nation by Zionists. On situation in Iraq, he said hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were killed during the US invasion of the country and millions were left homeless while the country itself lost all its basic infrastructures which will take decades to be replaced. Ahmadinejad also said that the growing production rates of narcotics in Afghanistan and increasing deprivation in the country was one of the major problems the human community was currently facing. Describing the new generation of nuclear warheads as a real threat to humanity, he referred to the mass production of such arms by several world countries and said the extreme cost of wars and military actions over the globe resulted in nothing but further growth of poverty, homelessness and misery among the poor. He also believed the world was experiencing an economic crisis and said the present critical situation in the world was more of a cultural, ethical and moral nature rather than being caused merely by economic elements. He stressed the role of the capitalist systems as the hardcore of the present world crisis and said the humiliation of nations, undermining local and ethnic cultures and challenging humanistic values while advocating corruption, oppressive behaviors and aggressive conducts by certain world powers had already turned into a prominent trend across the globe.
